COVID-19 is a great teacher of compassion, cooperation and honesty to humanity
Almost everyone in this world must be loathing and cursing Coronavirus right now but looking at it philosophically, we humans have a lot to learn from this pandemic. People already seem to know it internally and many are talking aloud that the post COVID-19 world will never be the same again.
I know its very easy to blame a country or organization or even a person at various levels depending on your own biases, prejudices and political affiliations but that's exactly the price we are paying for now, isn't it? Lack of cooperation between various entities at various levels is what allowed this virus to spread its wings in the first place.
Should I blame the Chinese government who kept COVID information a secret from rest of the world even as it was spreading its wings throughout Wuhan and many other parts of China? Or should I blame the WHO (World Health Organization) who failed to perform their duty of protecting the world from this crisis but instead, they too played along with the Chinese at a very critical stage?
Or should I blame all countries of the world who kept their airports and borders open even as late until March despite fully knowing about the seriousness of the COVID situation?
Try doing that and there is no end to it, we would all be indulging in a mindless blame game but the problem will still remain unsolved. At some point, we must collectively take responsibility for this, that cooperation is perhaps the only thing that stands a chance against this deadly and mysterious virus.
Compassion is also a very important thing here. Human greed and addiction of profiteering and earning more wealth at any cost has been devastating our planet since centuries. The sudden and drastic improvement in climate and lack of pollution levels during lockdown is the blessed proof of it!
Eating non-vegetarian food just to satisfy our taste buds is also a part of the problem. It requires an innocent being to die a painful death on the altar of human greed and craving. We wouldn't be dealing with this virus in the first place if we had compassion towards other beings. COVID is known to have originated in the Wuhan's seafood market in China's Hubei province where animals of multiple species are kept together for slaughter, thus making it a breeding ground for disasters like COVID.
All these facts when combined are teaching a great lesson to humanity, urging us to stop this mad rush towards growth and profitability powered by greed and selfishness. Its time to introspect, to think about sustainability. Its high time now that we change our priorities and keep human welfare and compassion at the epitome of all our activities. And this should be the responsibility of each human and at all levels, not just organizations or groups.
We are living in a historical turning point where evolution is forcing humans to change for the better and be more compassionate. But if you think about it, this isn't happening for the first time. Be it wars, famines, epidemics, natural calamities or any kind of disaster, every cause of despair has in fact made us more compassionate and more merciful beings, that's the speciality of human race. I'm quite sure that COVID will be defeated for good at the end but it would have also succeeded in changing our priorities and attitudes by then.
Whether we accept it or not, COVID is a result of human negligence, it has originated and started spreading its havoc across the world only because we allowed it to happen. Not just China where it originated first, but every nation and human in the world who then allowed it to propagate to their region played a role in it, so this is a joint-responsibility of all humans, there is no doubt about it.
